Agnieszka Smoczynskas tredje spillefilm tar utgangspunkt i en sann historie. Vi møter to tvillingsøstre som vokser opp i en liten walisisk by. Familien er de eneste mørkhudede på stedet, og når jentene opplever grov mobbing på skolen og holdes utenfor, trekker de seg etter hvert unna til et stumt, men også fantasifullt og kreativt, univers kun de to har tilgang til. Forholdet til omverdenen blir vanskelig, og etter episoder med hærverk, blir søstrene innesperret på det beryktede Broadmoor-sykehuset.

Smoczynskas film skildrer både den tragiske historien til de to søstrene, samtidig som hun gir liv til diktene, forestillingene og historiene de skapte over flere år, blant annet gjennom fantastiske stop motion-sekvenser skapt av Barbara Rupik og musikalnumre.

Ewa Ługowska, antropolog og en del av teamet ved NUFF Nordisk Ungdoms Filmfestival, vil holde en innledning før filmen.

Filmen er en del av temaprogrammet Ny polsk film, og vises i samarbeid med Den polske ambassaden i Norge, Polsk filmfestival og We Do Festival.

An intensely psychological drama about two sisters and the power of imagination!

Agnieszka Smoczyńska's third feature film is based on a true story. We meet two twin sisters growing up in a small Welsh town. The family is the only dark-skinned presence in the area, and as the girls experience severe bullying at school and are ostracized, they gradually withdraw into a silent yet imaginative and creative universe accessible only to them. Their relationship with the outside world becomes challenging, and after incidents of vandalism, the sisters are confined to the notorious Broadmoor hospital.

Smoczyńska's film portrays both the tragic story of the two sisters and breathes life into the poems, fantasies, and stories they created over several years, including fantastic stop-motion sequences created by Barbara Rupik and musical numbers.

Ewa Ługowska, a visual anthropologist and part of Nordic Youth Film Festival team, will give an introduction before the film.

The film is part of the thematic program New Polish Films and is presented in collaboration with the Polish Embassy in Norway, the Polish Film Festival, and the We Do Festival.
