Manolescu was made in the late area of the silent film period, and director Tourjansky manages all silent film techniques excellently, including beautiful lighting and moving cameras. The story is inspired by the true story of Manolescu, a Romanian fraudster who the Berlin press was obsessed with at the turn of the century.
