Ekspresjonismen var en grotesk kunstform som skildret personers mørke følelser i maktesløs kamp mot skjebnen. Scenedekorasjoner med uttrykksfulle lys- og skyggeeffekter, sammen med merkelige kameravinkler, skapte uhygge og symbolsk mening.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari utspiller seg i småbyen Holstenwall. Det er den årlige markedstiden, og med et omreisende tivoli kommer den merkelige Dr. Caligari til byen og viser frem søvngjengeren Cesare. Caligari har søvngjengeren helt i sin makt, og om nettene blir det begått flere mord. En ung mann begynner å ane uråd, men da han prøver å avsløre doktoren, får han store vanskeligheter.

OM MUSIKERNE

Med suggerende riff og dansbare rytmer spiller nonne psykedelisk rock. Duoen fra Tromsø møttes tidlig i tenårene, og dannet fort et nært vennskap som rytmeseksjon i flere lokale band. Et ønske om å skape noe enkelt, ekte og ærlig ble til nonne. I 2022 slapp de debut-EPen «Frem og Tilbake» som høstet gode kritikker, og har turnert jevnlig siden den gang. Ved bruk av trommemaskiner, synthesizere og høye gitarer har bandet fått fans av både rock og elektronisk musikk til å samles. I april 2023 slipper nonne deres hypnotiske og hardtslående debutalbum, Omf! på Slog records.

Filmkonserten The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari arrangeres i samarbeid med Insomniafestivalen og deres talentprogram Cloud Exit som skal gi nye nordnorske musikere muligheten til å eksperimentere med og utvikle sine ferdigheter innen elektronisk musikk. Nonne er et av talentene fra 2022 og har hatt musiker Gaute Barlindhaug som mentor gjennom perioden.

Expressionism was a grotesque art form that portrayed people's dark emotions in a powerless struggle against fate. Scene decorations with expressive lighting and shadow effects, along with strange camera angles, created horror and symbolic meaning.

THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI takes place in the small town of Holstenwall. It is the annual market, and with a traveling carnival comes the strange Dr. Caligari to town, showcasing the sleepwalker Cesare. Caligari has complete control over the sleepwalker, and several murders are committed at night. A young man begins to suspect the doctor, but when he tries to expose him, he encounters great difficulties.

ABOUT THE MUSICIANS

With repetitive riffs and danceable rhythms, nonne is a psychedelic rock duo from Tromsø, Norway. Meeting in their early teens the pair formed a special bond as the rhythm section for several local bands. A desire to create something simple, honest and real ended up as nonne. In 2022 they released their debut EP Frem og Tilbake to critical acclaim, and has toured consistently since then. With their use of drum machines and synthesizers, as well as loud guitars, they have made fans of both rock and electronic music come together at their live shows. In April 2023 the band will release their hypnotic and hard hitting debut album, Omf!, on Slog records.

The film concert THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI is organized in collaboration with the Insomnia Festival and their talent program Cloud Exit, which aims to give new musicians from Northern Norway the opportunity to experiment and develop their skills in electronic music. Nonne is one of the 2022 talents and had musician Gaute Barlindhaug as a mentor throughout the period.
