INFO IN ENGLISH
Here you'll find some key information in English about our history, program and ticket sales.

Verdensteatret Cinematheque is operated by the Tromsø International Film Festival and is a vibrant film culture house with daily film screenings of both classics and new quality films. We screen films in most formats including 35mm, 16mm, and digitally.
The Cinematheque's own film screenings make up the majority of the program, but the cinema also serves as a venue for the Tromsø Film Society and Tromsø Children's Film Society who host weekly screenings throughout the year.
The unique atmosphere and acoustics of the cinema hall also make it popular as a concert venue, and periodically, one can enjoy live broadcasts of opera from The Met in New York at Verdensteatret. The hall is also frequently used for debates, seminars, and other events.
Program
The cinematheque program on a monthly basis, with a new program announced towards the end of each period for the coming month. You can pick up an issue of our printed program in the bar, or check out our full program listing in the calendar. The cinema operates throughout the year, with the exception of July due to summer break and January due to the Tromsø International Film Festival. Our spring season runs from February through June and our autumn season from late August until Christmas.

About Verdensteatret
Verdensteatret is the regional cinematheque for Northern Norway. A cinematheque is a cinema-based organization that works to stimulate interest in film history and art by making key works from film history and recent quality films accessible to the public. The films should be presented in a way that is faithful to the original formats and screening methods. Our aim is to stimulate film culture locally, regionally, and nationally. A cinematheque operates based on non-commercial, cultural, and educational objectives. In addition to Tromsø, Norwegian cinematheques can be found in Oslo, Bergen, Kristiansand, Trondheim, Lillehammer, and Stavanger. Cinematheques in Norway collaborate on joint digital screenings of selected titles throughout the year, with support from the Norwegian Film Institute.
